Visit: July 2013
Spot: 25 – Back-In – Easy to Level
Great resort type of campground. Very popular so book way in advance. Level concrete pads. Some directly on the lake. This is near my relative’s home in West Virginia so we decided to camp out for a couple of days. We wanted to stay longer but we were seriously down on the wait list line! Stonewall Jackson books up super quick so prepare well in advance to grab a spot.
The bath houses are dark and damp. Beware of the spiders! Trash pickup was every morning at the curb. We even got a free newspaper in the morning!
There is a lot to do at Stonewall Jackson and surrounding areas: fishing, golfing, swimming, boat tours, events at the lodge, tour the haunted hospital in Weston. A family would not be bored by staying here. The park is a bit of a distance from the Interstate and stores/restaurants. Make sure to bring your provisions with you.
The size of our spot was huge. All the spots were of equal size. We had a concrete pad for our trailer, a large gravel area with picnic table and a large front area that was large enough for two cars.
The only downside is that I thought this place was like a subdivision. This was more glamping than camping. The campground is laid out with a lot of paved roads/pads and kids with bikes. There were tons of clothes lines out with swimming gear.
The main draw, for us, to stay at this campground was the Arnold Palmer golf course. This course is NOT cheap! It has a lot of challenging holes and slopes since it is built on the mountain. My boys gave it a BIG recommendation. They even enjoyed driving balls at the driving range. More on the golf course on a separate review.
