Restaurant Review: The Depot

The Depot

During our recent week in Auburn + Opelika, we kept hearing about a fabulous restaurant called The Depot.  The Depot is located just off the main historical area of Downtown Auburn and really close to our campground, Auburn RV Park at Leisure Time.  Seriously, everywhere we went and I asked for a restaurant suggestion, The Depot always came up.  After some investigating, I realized that it was mostly a fresh seafood restaurant.  That bummed me out because I am highly allergic to most seafood.  After some careful thought, I decided to grab a “to go” order of the Daily Special for my non-allergic husband.

I am going to admit that I was a bit intimidated calling in a “to go” order at The Depot because this is a white tablecloth restaurant.  Thankfully, the young lady taking my order didn’t give me any concern or thought I was odd.  She even gave me excellent directions.

Thursday’s Plat du Jour was Black and Blue Shrimp and Grits.  The shrimp were blackened and they used organic blue grits.  I should mention that my husband does NOT eat grits… at all…. until today.  When I brought back the shrimp and grits, he ate the beautifully displayed meal within minutes.  When he finished, he excitedly proclaimed this the best meal he has had all week.  Then, he changed his mind and decided it was the best meal he had all year!

We highly recommend that you take the time to visit The Depot when you are in Auburn, Alabama.  They are very well known for their fresh seafood, particularly the oysters and Alabama shrimp.  They serve lunch and dinner along with an incredibly tasty Sunday Brunch.  Make sure to follow The Depot on Instagram for heavenly food photos!
