Scaly Mountain, NC AirBnB offers privacy, comfort and an opportunity away from the hustle and bustle.
If we are not traveling with our Vintage Argosy Trailer or Vintage Argosy Motorhome, then we usually look for an AirBnB. Overwhelmingly, we have had great experiences with AirBnB. Only once did we have an experience that was so distasteful that we had to leave early. We consider that a rare bad experience. Staying at the Cozy Cabin in Scaly Mountain, NC the first week of October 2017 renewed our faith in not only AirBnB but also the entire family vacation experience.
A little background….
We usually travel to West Virginia during our teenager’s Fall School Break. He loves to fly fish on the same rivers that my ancestors lived and fished all the way back to the early 1800’s. This year, our family had been so wrapped up and involved in renovating our Vintage Argosy Motorhome, “Moose“, that I totally forgot to book our favorite WV AirBnb! With just a week until the start of the Fall School Break, of course the AirBnB in WV was booked… along with our backup AirBnB. Knowing that the three of us were desperate to get away from our daily lives, I randomly did an AirBnB search for anywhere within 2 hours of our home near Atlanta. That is how we found the Cozy Cabin in Scaly Mountain, NC.
A simple random search to a place you have never heard of sometimes leads you to the best decision you make all year.
A quick availability request to Kyle, the owner of the Cozy Cabin, and we were booked for a week! We have never traveled to the Western North Carolina Mountains before and knew very little about the area. Sometimes, it is easy to convince our teenager to try something new, sometimes not. With the promise of golf and fly fishing, he was willing to give up on his annual trip to WV.
Our requirements for lodging are fairly simple: two bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, near some attractions and atmosphere. Oh and must love dogs! A large reason we own two Vintage Vehicles is so we can travel with our terriers. The Cozy Cabin met all of our requirements, including being dog friendly, and so much more.
The Cozy Cabin is located in the small town of Scaly Mountain, NC which is surrounded by Sky Valley, GA. These two small towns share the same road: Dillard Road. Dillard Road is one of the main paths to Highlands, NC which is only a very short drive away. The Cozy Cabin is an easy two hour drive from Atlanta and the suburbs.
The Cozy Cabin, directly off of Dillard Road, is on a long gravel road with a lot of privacy. It has two levels for parking.
The Cozy Cabin has a screened front porch with two comfy wicker chairs, a full deck on the back of the house with a hammock and chiminea and a view amongst the treetops. It has two full bedrooms, one with a full bed and the other with two twins along with one fully renovated bathroom. There is a kitchen table for four along with plenty of seating in the living room.
There is plenty of places to roam and explore on the expansive homestead. You can fish on the property or seek out the waterfall.
Besides the privacy, fresh air, view from the treetops and great location, one of our favorite “perks” with the Cozy Cabin is the resident security: Samson, the Newfoundland. Our teenager LOVED Samson whenever he came around to check up on the property. Samson always barked twice at the driveway to let our son know he was there. He stayed for about 10 minutes and then was off to check on the rest of his property. If, by chance, you are afraid of dogs, big dogs or don’t want to meet Samson, it would be a shame but he won’t take it personally. He will just move on along his way to do his job.
